Non-Variable Annuity PBR and Statutory Reserving Updates

The American Academy of Actuaries will present on current initiatives that impact the U.S. statutory reserving methodology for non-variable annuity contracts. In particular, the development of a principle-based reserving framework on non-variable annuity contracts will be discussed, including framework elements, assumptions, and methodology. The session will provide an update on the status of regulatory discussions and the timeline for future changes to reserves. By the end of the session, attendees will understand what changes are being made to non-variable annuity reserves, details underlying existing proposals, and the anticipated timing of such emerging changes. This session is intended to the meet the needs of actuaries focused on annuity reserve calculations, financial reporting, and valuation.

Jason Kehrberg is Vice President at PolySystems where he manages PBR readiness and helps clients use PolySystems software to meet actuarial modeling and data needs at the product and enterprise level.  Jason has served on SOA's Financial Reporting and Technology section councils and currently chairs the American Academy of Actuaries' Life Valuation Committee.  Prior to joining PolySystems Jason worked for several years as a consultant focusing on actuarial modeling and also worked as director of financial modeling at a life insurance company.

Chris Conrad is currently a Senior Actuary with Transamerica focusing on emerging regulatory actuarial issues. Prior to his current role, Chris worked in various financial reporting and risk management roles.  Chris is an active volunteer for both the Society of Actuaries and the American Academy of Actuaries.  He holds a BA from Macalester College and an MBA from the University of Iowa.

Ben Slutsker is a Corporate Vice President & Actuary for New York Life Insurance Company, where he works in the Office of the Chief Actuary and is responsible for overseeing actuarial regulatory issues. In past roles, Ben has worked in Individual Life Financial Reporting, New York Life International, BOLI/COLI Pricing, and previously led the implementation of Principles-Based Reserving. Ben currently chairs the American Academy of Actuaries Annuity Reserves Work Group and the Society of Actuaries Life Financial Modeling Exam Curriculum Committee. In addition, he is a member of the Academy Life Practice Council, Life Valuation Committee, and PBR Implementation Work Group.Ben is a Fellow of the Society of Actuaries (FSA) and a Member of the American Academy of Actuaries (MAAA).
