This session is based on recent SOA research examining how the COVID-19 outbreak will impact life insurance industry claims. While data on U.S. COVID-19 deaths and hospitalization rates is reported throughout the media, it is often in an aggregated form and not at a level that is useful for actuaries.

Hear Marianne Purushotham, Corporate Vice President at LIMRA, Scott Campion, Partner at Oliver Wyman, and Cindy MacDonald, SOA’s Sr. Experience Studies Actuary, discuss the results of short surveys being conducted to measure the industry’s “pulse” on such topics as the potential impact of COVID-19 on the insurance industry, low interest rates and cash flow testing, and new business practices in light of the pandemic.

Leaders from the SOA’s Marketing and Distribution Section provide insight into how the sales and marketing of insurance products have been, and may be, affected by COVID-19.
